Description: A striking probably American Renaissance Revival hall bench constructed in mahogany and richly figured mahogany veneer. The compact form has a molded rectangular back centered by a broad figured panel above a lift-top seat opening to interior storage. Full-bodied winged lions form the sculptural arm supports, with deeply modeled heads, feathered wings, scrolling tails, and forelegs terminating in paw feet on molded plinth bases. Additional incised foliage and animal-form carving enriches the outer side panels.

Condition: Retains a darkened and likely refinished or heavily recoated surface with scratches, abrasions, finish wear, uneven sheen, and visible finish runs on the reverse. Carved heads, wings, paws, moldings, and projecting edges exhibit rubbing, small chips, and minor losses. The upper left rear corner has finish loss and edge wear. Seat and interior have scratches, staining, and wear. The underside of the lift top has an inset panel secured with visible small fasteners, possibly representing later repair or reinforcement. Some rear fasteners may be replaced.
